Local students receive farm scholarships


WALPOLE, N.H. -- The Monadnock Localvores recently awarded a number of local students scholarships as part of its 2014 Jeffrey P. Smith Farm Scholarship award.

Recipients included: Maddie Beaudry, Edward Gowdy, George Gowdy, Tabitha Phillips, Tristan Phillips, Benjamin Robichaud, all of Walpole; Elissa Brady, of North Walpole; Hab Burkett, Haley Christie and Reign Shepa of Alstead; Jeff Giza, Brennan Lilly, Andie Majewski, Hannah Majewski, Maria Majewski and Emmaline Riendeau, all of Westmoreland; Emma Harvey and Rhyan Harvey of Winchester; and Eli Littleton, of Chesterfield.

All scholarship recipients demonstrated a desire to learn more about farming and gardening and they will have the opportunity to attend a farm camp of their choice this summer.

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Cheshire County Farm Bureau, Westmoreland Lions Club, Keene Lions Club, Markem Imaje and other donors made these scholarships possible.

The Jeffrey P. Smith Farm Scholarship endeavors to connect young people with agriculture and the natural world around them.
