Londonderry car crash leaves one dead, one injured
LONDONDERRY — A Massachusetts man died from injuries sustained during a motor vehicle crash on Sunday.
At approximately 2:19 a.m. that morning, Vermont State Police and Londonderry firefighters responded to a single-car collision in Londonderry.
Police said Michael Hazel, 24, of Harvard, Mass., was driving a 2008 Subaru Forester on Middle Town Road when he failed to safely navigate a sharp corner near the intersection of Brooks Lane. He was wearing a seat belt at the time.
"The vehicle crossed the other lane of travel before exiting the roadway and striking a large tree with the driver's side of the car," police wrote in a press release. "During the collision, Hazel sustained injuries that led to his death."
Peter Duckett, 25, also of Harvard, Mass., sustained non-life threatening injuries to his face. Duckett was transported to Springfield Hospital Emergency Room for treatment.
Hazel's vehicle had extensive damage to the front and rear side door areas and front end.
The case is still under investigation. Police said additional information will be released after the incident is investigated.
