Madhuram: An afternoon of Indian dance, music and poetry
On Sunday at 4 p.m., at the Loft in the Brattleboro Cotton Mill complex, there will be an afternoon of Indian dance, music and bhakti poetry. Doors open at 3:45 p.m. and chai will be available. Tickets, available at the door,are $10 and $8 for seniors.
The program features Bada Raga, Indian classical music from a Vermont perspective with Indian slide guitar and tabla; Prachi Dalal, who will present stories, movement and rhythms from the classical dance repertoire of Kathak, a dance form that evolved in Northern India through the confluence of Hindu and Islamic aesthetics; and a jugal bandhi of north and south Indian music with Indian slide guitar and south Indian flute. In addition, Prachi will interpret Indian devotional poetry, in English translation, dedicated to the god Krishna.
Prachi Dalal is a dancer and choreographer trained in Kathak, a classical Indian dance form.
