Mahoney is Reformer Athlete of the Week


BRATTLEBORO >> Brattleboro Union High School varsity softball player Jamie Mahoney received 62 votes to earn Brattleboro Reformer Athlete of the Week honors for May 22-28.

The lead-off hitter went 3 for 3, including a pair of doubles, during a 9-3 victory over Rutland. Two days before that, she had two hits in a 4-0 decision over the Raiders.

Val Annis, who was one of the people who voted for Mahoney, was impressed by how the speedy catcher chased down a runner that was retreating back to third base during a game at Sawyer Field.

The following student-athletes have been nominated for their performances during the week of May 29 to June 4, however write-ins are also welcome. You can vote by typing in your choice as a comment beneath this story at Please only vote once.


The Bellows Falls track star won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the triple jump at the state meet in Chester. He led the Terriers to their fourth consecutive title, as they defeated runner-up Thetford by 21 points in the Division 3 meet.


The Leland & Gray hurler struck out nine total batters during playoff wins over Montpelier and Oxbow. The freshman also helped himself with a two-run single against the Olympians.


Brattleboro's freshman shortstop had four hits, including a pair of doubles and a homer, and drove in six runs to power the Colonels to a playdown victory over South Burlington. She also had one hit in her softball team's quarterfinal loss to Middlebury.


The shortstop went 3 for 4 at the plate in Twin Valley's loss to Williamstown in a Division 3 baseball playdown game. He helped the Wildcats to a 7-10 record under first-year coach Brian Monroe.
