Main Street Arts 'Coffeehaus Concert Series' will present folk quartet

SAXTONS RIVER >> Main Street Arts Coffeehaus Concert Series will present the folk quartet 2x2 on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m.

2x2 pairs Valerie Kosednar and Mark Grieco, together with Betsy and Lee Rybeck Lynd in a concert of a cappella and accompanied music distinguished by its broad range of styles, including traditional and contemporary folk songs from around the world. Formed two years ago, the group has been well received as a folk quartet in concerts around the region. The concert at Main Street Arts will include songs arranged for four voices, several of which are arranged by local composers.

A well-known area music teacher and singer, Valerie Kosednar has conducted children's choirs in the Midwest, New York City, and locally. Mark Grieco has played in various rock 'n' roll bands in the area, and he and Valerie sing in the hospice choir Hallowell. Betsy Rybeck Lynd was a school chorus director for many years. She and Lee led pub sings for Muskeg Music years ago, have occasionally performed as a duo, and have been active in musical theatre. The members of 2x2 have also sung together in the 20-person ensemble House Blend.

MSA Managing Director Margo Ghia said, "We are delighted to welcome 2x2 to Main Street Arts." Ghia noted that Mark and Betsy originally met in the 1990's through singing with Mary Cay Brass at Main Street Arts in the River Singers and Emerald Stream, with Valerie joining both groups in 2002. "In the years since, Valerie Kosednar has become an essential member of the Main Street Arts family.. She is well known as both a talented performer and as an inspiring director of MSA Children's chorus programs. We are eager to welcome these friends and musical collaborators to our stage."

The Main Street Arts "Coffeehaus Concert" Series regularly features local performers who are masters of folk and traditional musical styles performing in a relaxed, "coffee house" style environment at MSA's theater at 35 Main Street in Saxtons River.
