Man arrested in connection with 'suspicious death' in Brattleboro last September

BRATTLEBORO -- A local man was arrested in connection with a death on Western Avenue on Sept. 14. The Reformer first reported the death on Sept. 17.

According to police, Christopher W. Akay, 30, of Brattleboro, was "arrested without incident" at his residence on Wednesday. He was charged with manslaughter, selling drugs with death resulting, sale of heroin, possession of heroin and possession of a stimulant (a narcotic drug).

Akay was ordered held on $250,000 bail and will be arraigned at Windham Superior Court on Thursday.

Brattleboro Police last September were called to investigate a "suspicious death" at a residence on Western Avenue. The deceased was later identified as Lisa L. Johnson, 48.

An autopsy determined that Johnson had died of a heroin overdose.

In addition to the Brattleboro Police Department, the investigation included assistance from the Vermont Information and Analysis Center and Vermont Forensic Laboratory.
