Man hurt in OHRV crash

WINCHESTER, N.H. -- A 52-year-old man was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center after crashing the off-highway recreational vehicle he was operating at the intersection of Melvin Bridge Road and Route 10 on July 5.

According to Winchester Youth D.A.R.E. Officer Mike T. Tollett, Jesse B. Carl lost control of the Yamaha four-wheeled OHRV he was riding at 10:40 p.m. and was not wearing any protective equipment. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Tollett reported the extent of Carl's injuries were not immediately known. Tollett did not return a phone call seeking comment by presstime Sunday.

According to a police report, a DART helicopter arrived at Winchester Town Hall parking lot -- at the request of DiLuzio Ambulance and Winchester Ambulance personnel -- and flew Carl to Worcester, Mass.

Witnesses told police they saw an OHRV traveling north along Route 10 as they were driving south on Route 10. They saw an OHRV cross the roadway in front of them and then saw that the vehicle had flipped over, with a male lying on the ground next to it. One of the witnesses called 911.
