Man injured in Burlington transient stabbing, suspect on run

BURLINGTON, VT. >> Police say one man was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds following a fight between two transients that erupted on a crowded street in downtown Burlington.

The Burlington Free Press reports the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Monday on Main Street, directly across the street from the Flynn Center for Performing Arts. Shows were underway at the venue at the time.

Police say a panhandling dispute in City Hall Park sparked the stabbing.

Sgt. Jon Young says the victim was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in fair condition. Police say the suspect fled the scene and is still on the run as of Monday night. No description of the wanted man was provided.

Police have yet to identify both men involved. An investigation is ongoing.
