BELLOWS FALLS >> Stone Church Arts and Immanuel Retreat Center in Bellows Falls hosts the Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music for the sixth time, Jan. 14 through 17. The festival culminates in a public concert at 3 p.m, Sunday, Jan. 17 featuring The New England Mandolin Ensemble and festival participants.

Directed by Prof. August Watters of Berklee College of Music, the ensemble presents a fresh, engaging and enjoyable concert experience for audiences of classical music, traditional folk music, and fans of the mandolin, mandola, mandocello, and classical guitar.

The purpose of the festival is to create learning and performance opportunities for those interested in chamber music composed for mandolin and its related instruments (as well as classical guitar).

A great wealth of music exists for mandolin-guitar ensembles. Since most of it has been forgotten or out of the public eye for generations, it's an exciting time to be a mandolinist! The Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music provides an opportunity to explore mandolin ensemble music, from baroque to romantic and contemporary works.

The New England Mandolin Ensemble is in the vanguard of musical groups exploring both newly-composed and nearly-forgotten works for classical mandolin ensemble.

Come Experience August Watters, New England Mandolin and participants in The Festival of Mandolin Chamber Music VI at 3 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 17 at Immanuel Episcopal Church, 20 Church St., the stone church on the hill in Bellows Falls. The concert will be held in our small venue, the Chapel, so no more than 50 tickets will be sold.

Tickets are $17 general admission and $13 seniors in advance ($20 and $15 at the door). Further information and tickets are available at Village Square Booksellers in Bellows Falls, by calling 802-460-0110, and online at www.stonechurcharts.org.
