McCloskey is Reformer Athlete of the Week


BRATTLEBORO >> Brattleboro Union High School varsity girls lacrosse player Kira McCloskey received 25 votes to earn Reformer Athlete of the Week honors for May 1-7.

The senior midfielder scored on a free position shot in overtime to give the Colonels a thrilling 9-8 victory over visiting Keene. Trailing 8-4 late in the second half, the purple and white got strikes from Susanna Strothman, Megyn Ayotte, Axis Balsley-Petraska and Sam Cragin to set the stage for No. 7.

Morgan Derosia

The BUHS senior lacrosse player had a hat trick against both Hoosick Falls and Burr and Burton. She also teamed up with Megyn Ayotte to win 16 out of 22 draws versus the Empire Staters.

Casper Rowe

Leland & Gray's freshman pitcher earned a victory over previously undefeated Poultney. He struck out four, walked two and scattered four hits during the Rebels' 4-1 decision.

Danielle Wood

The Brattleboro sprinter won the 200 and finished second in the 100 at the Connecticut Valley Conference Championships in Langdon, N.H. She led the Colonel girls to a team bronze, behind champion Monadnock and runner-up Lebanon.

Mackenzie Boyle

The first baseman had three hits and drove in five runs to power the Rebels to a 19-4 rout of Arlington in Townshend. The Leland & Gray slugger doubled twice during her team's 10-run fifth frame and had another extra-base hit in the sixth.
