Medicaid commission hearing presentation on impact

Posted
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Social services officials are offering their view of what expanding Medicaid would mean to New Hampshire to a special nine-member commission studying the issue.

The Department of Health and Human Services plans to look at the potential impact Tuesday at the commission's third meeting.

States can choose to expand Medicaid as part of a key component of the federal health care overhaul, which is being implemented starting Jan. 1.

Gov. Maggie Hassan, a Democrat, and the Democratic-led House wanted to authorize expansion in the budget bill, but the Republican-led Senate insisted on establishing a commission to study the issue first. The compromise was setting an Oct. 15 reporting date.
