Mental health advocates: N.H. facing access crisis
Kenneth Norton is the executive director of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. He says the situation faced by those in crisis is wrong medically, legally, ethically and morally. He and representatives from more than a dozen groups are holding a press conference Monday, a few weeks after the state health department announced new efforts to reduce the time patients spend waiting for a bed to become available at the state psychiatric hospital.
The plan includes having the state hospital track individuals awaiting a bed and temporarily re-opening a dozen beds that currently are closed.
