Midnight vehicle pursuit ends in arrest

BRATTLEBORO — At just before midnight on Monday, a member of the Vermont State Police attempted a motor vehicle stop on a black 1996 Dodge pickup truck on Canal Street for an equipment violation.

Instead of pulling over, the operator, later identified as Lukas Paul Dodge Wallace, 21, fled on side streets before accelerating westbound on Western Avenue at speeds in excess of 80 mph in a posted 30 mph speed zone. The pursuit ended in the area of the West Brattleboro Fire Department after Dodge Wallace's truck suffered mechanical problems, but as the vehicle came to a stop, Dodge Wallace exited the truck and fled the scene on foot, running through backyards along George F. Miller Drive and Western Avenue.

Troopers, along with a State Police K9 unit, pursued the subject on foot who was eventually found behind a residence on Western Avenue where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Dodge Wallace was cited to appear in court on charges of grossly negligent operation, attempting to elude law enforcement, excessive speed and violation of conditions of release.
