Morgan Dow named Windham Regional Career Center's January Student of the Month

BRATTLEBORO >> Morgan Dow, a senior from Halifax, has been named the Windham Regional Career Center's January Student of the Month.

She was recommended for this honor by two of her Career Center teachers, Jim Valliere in the automotive department and Bob Simeon in the construction trades department.

Morgan has availed herself of a number of Career Center course opportunities during her time in high school. She has completed Introduction to Automotive Repair & Technology, Introduction to Construction Trades & Practice, Technical Math 3, Technical & Professional English 3, Personal Finance, Career & College Readiness, Automotive Electrical Systems, Introduction to Electricity, and Automotive Sub Systems. This semester, she's taking Hydroponic & Greenhouse Operations and Electronics & Speaker Building. She is also working as an assistant for Mr. Valliere in the Career Center's automotive program.

In recommending Morgan for this honor, Valliere mentioned that she consistently goes above and beyond her responsibilities as a student, and that she has been a leader and a terrific team player in his program. Simeon added that Morgan is constantly trying to better herself and that she is very evidently in his program to learn all that she can. They have both been impressed with Morgan's honesty, integrity, hard work and the encouragement she shows to fellow students.

Morgan has found success at the Career Center.

"I didn't want to be in school until I came to the Career Center. The courses there are hands-on, which is how I learn best."

She has taken a wide variety of courses there, including a cooperative education work experience at the service department of Brattleboro Ford. She said that she enjoyed that experience, but it also informed her that this was not a career path she wanted to follow. She understands that part of the Career Center experience is to begin formulating plans for the future, and that learning what you don't want to do can have nearly as much value as learning what you would like to pursue.

Morgan plans to work for a year after she graduates to save money for college, which she will start the following year. At this point, her primary interests are in electricity and business.

The Windham Regional Career Center provides technical and career training for students from the following high schools: Brattleboro, Leland and Gray, Twin Valley, Bellows Falls, and Hinsdale, N.H.
