Morse, Freitas-Eagan compete in U16 Championships

BRATTLEBORO >> Vermont finished second to New Hampshire in the New England Nordic Ski Association's U16 Championships over the weekend in Bethel, Maine. The bronze went to Maine, while Massachusetts finished in fourth.

"This was the premier cross-country skiing event in the east for racers 15-16 years of age," said BUHS Nordic coach Amanda Dixon. "Teams made up of 22 boys and 22 girls were from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. Smaller teams of guest skiers came from other U.S. regions and Canada."

Brattleboro's Liz Morse placed 46th overall in the girls individual competition. She finished 37th in the 5K Classical, 34th in the 5K Freestyle, 66th in the Classic Sprint, and 42nd in the Skate Sprint.

Brattleboro's Isaac Freitas-Eagan ended up tied for 7th overall in the boys individual standings. He was 10th in the 5K Classic race, 7th in the 5K Freestyle race, 13th in the Classic Sprint, and 6th in the 1.2K Freestyle Sprint.

Freitas-Eagan recently earned the silver medal in the 5K Classic portion of the state meet in Ripton. He teamed up with Spencer Loggia, Declan King, and Jonah Koch — a foursome that finished third behind Mount Mansfield and CVU in the two-day event.

Morse wound up 18th in the 5K Classic at states to pace the Colonel girls. Morse, Isabella Thurber, Elery Loggia, and Sarah Gallagher made up a Brattleboro team that took seventh behind North Country, CVU, Mount Mansfield, Burlington, MAU, and Essex.
