Mountain School gives thanks and gives back

WINHALL >> This November, The Mountain School at Winhall participated in its second annual Thanksgiving community service project.

Two area organizations helped MSW identify 10 local families who would benefit from having Thanksgiving meals provided for them. The Stratton Foundation and the Winhall Market partnered with MSW to provide the turkeys for these meals, and students and their families supplied all of the other ingredients necessary to make 10 full Thanksgiving dinners.

Students were encouraged to earn money and help shop for grocery items, connecting them to the entire process of this service project. MSW students also created cards and decorations, which were distributed with each meal on Monday, Nov. 23, by Ms. Stanley, MSW's head of school, and members of the seventh/eighth grade class.

"We are all very fortunate to look forward to a lovely Thanksgiving feast," Stanley said. "There are, of course, many for whom the Thanksgiving holiday presents a struggle. Our school can make a real difference, and instill in our students the importance of generosity and sharing."
