NECCA graduation circus performances continue Fri. and Sat.
PUTNEY -- The New England Center for Circus Arts is one of American’s only training centers for aspiring circus professionals. Each year the school auditions nearly 100 students, and only 18 are accepted into the Professional Training Program.
After nine months of stretching, strengthening, dancing, acting and training in specific skills, the students present their graduation acts in a theatrical showcase. Prior year graduates are on tour with Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Bros & Barnum & Bailey and other acclaimed circuses and the school has gained a reputation for training high level and inventive circus artists.
The final performances of the 2013 graduates in their show, "Gathered Safely In ..." are held Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday at 3 and 7:30 p.m., at the Greenhoe Theater at Landmark College.
The show follows a fictional day in the lives of 16 circus performers in the 1930s as they prepare for their big top production. While each individual has a different experience and story to tell, they all gather together as a family to perform exceptional circus artisty on trapeze, aerial fabric, partner acrobatics, handbalancing, contortion and more.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for kids under 12, free for children under 2. To purchase tickets, visit necenterforcirccusarts.org. For more information, call 802-254-9780.
