NECCA hosts Circus Workshop Weekend
BRATTLEBORO -- The New England Center for Circus Arts welcomes the community to join the Spring Circus Workshop Weekend this Friday to Sunday at its Brattleboro studios.
More than 40 workshops will bring 100-plus students from around the world for activities for beginners through professional levels. Classes include physical training, as well as a performance, and various discussions and seminars.
The "Life on Tour" open conversation, Friday at 7 p.m., invites the community to hear stories and ask questions from performers from Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Bros, and other top companies. Throughout the weekend, coaches from Canada, England, Morocco and the United States will offer a multitude of activities that run two to three hours each. Students can register for one or many and physical classes include German wheel, trapeze, fabric and partner acrobatics and many more activities.
For the circus fan who prefers to watch a show, NECCA welcomes Girls on Trapeze, with the theatrical aerial show HerSelf Rising. The show examines the roles that women play in each other’s lives and the strength and grace it takes to find our true selves. The narrative weaves stories of trials and triumphs through aerial artistry, acrobatics, flexibility and strength to reveal the vulnerability and power in each individual. Please note, this show includes powerful content of a mature nature and is not suitable for youth. There will be one show only at the NECCA main studio at 74 Cotton Mill Hill on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.
To register for any of the workshops and to purchase tickets to HerSelf Rising, visit www.necenterforcircusarts.org or call 802-254-9780.
