Northfield defeats BUHS boys on ice


NORTHFIELD — Cory Doney had a hat trick and an assist as the Northfield varsity boys ice hockey team topped visiting Brattleboro, 5-3, on Saturday.

Garrett Bean and Mitchell Goodrich also tallied for the Marauders. Jackson Clayton finished with three assists.

Miles Hiler, Evan Perkins and Mason Powers all had one goal for the 0-2 Colonels, who fell to Woodstock 8-0 in Wednesday's season opener.

Nick Perusse made 29 saves for the purple and white. Northfield goalie Matthew Aubut stopped 13 shots.

Brattleboro will play at Burr and Burton on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.


SAINT JOHNSBURY >> Bellows Falls placed sixth out of 17 teams in Saturday's Sandy Murray Invitational.

Lucas Saunders (106 pounds) and Jake Lober (heavyweight) each wound up second in their division to lead the Terriers. Brendan Kendall (152) went 3-1 and placed third while Charles Dolloph (145) and DJ Snide (195) each finished fourth.

BF's Austin Taylor (145) won a couple of matches by pin in his varsity debut. Freshmen Bradley Frye (120) and Julian Christiansen (170) also wrestled well.

The Terriers will compete in the ConVal Tournament in Peterborough, N.H., on Saturday.

Boys Basketball

WHITINGHAM >> Skyler Boyd and DJ Lazelle each had a double-double to help Twin Valley to a 69-41 victory over Rivendell in Saturday's season opener.

Boyd finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds while Lazelle ended up with 17 points, 10 boards and five rejections. Sophomore Logan Park scored the first two points of his varsity career.

Zack Gray paced Rivendell with 17 points.

The 1-0 Wildcats will play at MSJ on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
