'Of Bread and Paper' in a Thanksgiving Performance

Posted

PUTNEY >> Sandglass Theater honors the changing of the seasons with Finn Campman's solo show, "Of Bread and Paper." Campman will perform one show only on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. This performance is wonderfully representational of the sentiment of the holiday, and depicts a generous, thoughtful and beautiful journey of the soul. This evocative piece invites you to enter a world of light and shadow where layers of meaning are glimpsed and gradually revealed.

"Of Bread and Paper" is the story of a poor refugee trying to find his way home. His exile is self imposed but enforced by the struggles of the world: poverty, conflict, indecision, and love. It is a play made of fairy tales and shadows and like "One Thousand and One Nights" the story unfolds within itself revealing layers of narrative.

A storyteller tells of a paper man who has nothing but a small round of bread. As he seeks his fortune, he is confronted by a dream that seems to unfold his future, a future that holds his true love, a child, and the need to return home. As he is released from the dream he finds himself confronted with the ghost of his future in the form of the storyteller himself. The show is played with paper figures, light and shadows.

This show may be paired with a day touring the Putney Craft Tour. Tickets for "Of Bread and Paper" are $16 general and $13 for students and seniors, available online at sandglasstheater.org.

Getting tickets in advance is highly encouraged as seating is limited. Reservations may also be made by phoning the box office at 802-387-4051. Reservations are payable by cash or check at the door. Sandglass Theater is an accessible, 60-seat theater on Kimball Hill.
