"One Nation Under God" at First Congregational Church of Newfane


NEWFANE - The First Congregational Church of Newfane will welcome Rev. James Scott as the guest pastor at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Sept. 8. Rev. Scott’s sermon is titled "One Nation Under God" with scripture from Joshua 5:13-15. Hymns to be sung by the congregation are "For the Healing of the Nations", "O God of Every Nation" and "Let There Be Peace on Earth". The choir returns from the summer break to sing "God of Great and God of Small" by Natalie Sleeth. The prelude "Arioso" by Ray Landis and the postlude "Postlude on Sicilian Mariners’ Hymn" will be played the organist/music director Martha LaMoria.

Next Sunday will be Rally Day and all children are urged to come and begin the new Sunday School year. There will be a Blessing of the Backpacks and the School Year and children/youth are encouraged to bring their backpacks to the service for a blessing. This will also be the first in a "Sunday-After-Worship" series titled "What It Means to Be a Christian". These discussions will be held at 11:20 a.m. in the Dowley Room.

Upcoming events for the week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Monthly Senior Luncheon (Chicken & Biscuits) at noon, Handbells at 4:45 p.m. and Choir Rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
