BRATTLEBORO -- Starting Jan. 28, Open Music Collective begins its spring semester with classes for all levels of musicianship.
Jazz Ensembles will resume with offerings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 5 p.m., and a special class for youth under 18 on Saturday mornings. These classes will study classic recordings and compositions chosen for the students involved, work on "playing the changes," and on how to improve listening and work with others.
On Mondays there is a piano class in OMC’s new piano lab, offering group and individual instruction including basics on chords, bass lines and accompaniment skills.
The Jazz Vocal Repertoire Class will return. Students will work on learning songs, writing charts, working with rhythm sections, counting off tunes and improvising in all classes with a focus on standards and bossa novas. High school and college Students are especially encouraged.
On Thursdays, Ben Carr will teach Ukulele Ensemble. Classes will focus on singing, picking melodies, strumming and ensemble playing ... plus a whole lot of fun. No prior music experience or knowledge necessary. A great introduction to music and the ukulele.
