Pedestrian struck on Western Ave. Monday morning

BRATTLEBORO -- A man was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Monday morning after police say he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in the area of 435 Western Ave.

According to Brattleboro Police, Eric Tuepker, 40, appeared to have been hit by the side of a flatbed trailer being pulled by the 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck Ronald Farrington was driving at 8:34 a.m.

Police say Tuepker was brought to BMH by Rescue Inc. and then taken by helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon.

Police closed a portion of the road for about an hour and a half as they investigated the scene and traffic was backed up down the Interstate 91 Southbound Exit 2 ramp, as well as Western Avenue. Williams Street had to be set up as a detour.

A witness told the Reformer the victim seemed to be conscious before being taken away by Rescue Inc. There appeared to be a small pool of blood on the road.

The accident is still under investigation but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
