Pelz-Walsh catches 8 passes in opener


BRATTLEBORO >> Brattleboro Union High School graduate Soren Pelz-Walsh caught eight passes for 65 yards and a touchdown during the Castleton football team's 20-7 loss to Plymouth State in Saturday's season opener. Defensive back Tyler Higley, who also played for BUHS, made a couple of tackles for the Spartans. Castleton (0-1) will play at Fitchburg State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Sophomore Sarah Wells, who is a Bellows Falls Union High School grad, already has four goals and one assist for the Castleton field hockey team. After losing to Union 2-1 in their opener, the Spartans defeated Morrisville State 8-5 and then routed Daniel Webster 10-1.

Patrick Gilligan placed fourth for the Castleton men's cross-country team at the Mountaineer Invitational in Bennington on Saturday. The BUHS graduate was clocked in 19:05 as he helped the Spartans earn silver.

BUHS grad Ryan Gilligan took 14th overall in 18:22 as the Norwich University men's cross-country team dominated the SUNY Canton Kangaroo Invitational on Thursday.

Former Twin Valley star Colin Lozito started one of the first two games for the Norwich University men's soccer team. The Cadets are off to a 1-1 start, including a victory over Oswego State and a loss to New Paltz State.
