WINHALL >> The Winhall Police Department assisted by other local, state and county law enforcement agencies will be conducting a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint during the week of Dec. 27. This will be conducted in conjunction with the Governors Highway Safety Holiday Campaign and will take place in the town of Winhall, Bennington County. Vermonters and visitors to the state are urged to use a designated driver whenever necessary and to always wear seatbelts.

Dec. 12

• The Windham County Sheriff's Office conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 5 in Vernon. As a result, Tharen M. Amidon, 23, and Heather L. Parker, 19, both of Perkinsville, were arrested. Parker had an active arrest warrant for numerous charges out of the state of Vermont. She was also cited with providing false information to a police officer and disorderly conduct. Amidon had an active arrest warrant out of the state of Vermont stemming from past charges as well as an active extraditable warrant out of the state of New Hampshire. He was also cited with providing false information to a police officer and being a fugitive from justice.

Dec. 14

• The Vermont State Police is investigating an armed robbery that Dec. 14 at 11:40 a.m. at the Cavendish General Store. A lone male suspect entered the store and held a knife to the cash register attendant, demanding cash. The attendant was unable to get the drawer open and a second worker from the store appeared from the rear of the store and intervened. A struggle ensued in which the intervening attendant struck the suspect in the arm with a machete. The suspect took the cash register and fled from the store on foot. The register was dropped in the parking lot and the suspect was seen by an eyewitness driving away in a vehicle bearing VT registration GGD960. The vehicle is a 2005 Tan Volkswagon Jetta. Neither victim was injured during the incident. The suspect is not believed to have suffered significant injuries. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5-feet, 9-inches tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, winter coat (possibly blue and white), and a black baseball cap. Video surveillance from the store is not available to the media at the time of this press release. • At 8:30 p.m. the Keene, N.H., Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 12 North. As a result, Maria Zdunek, 82, of Bellows Falls, was cited with operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.

All persons named in the Police Log are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
