BRATTLEBORO >> A reminder that Interstate 91 Southbound will be closed Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Exit Three and Exit Two to allow for road maintenance. On Wednesday, Dec. 9, Northbound Interstate 91 will be closed between Exits Two and Three, also from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and also to allow for road maintenance. Traffic officers will be on hand to detour traffic onto Route 5.

Valgar Street fire investigation continues

BRATTLEBORO >> The investigation into the arson fire that caused extensive damage to four apartments at 16 through 38 Valgar St. continues to be a very active, joint effort by the Brattleboro Police Department and the Brattleboro Fire Department.

Both agencies, along with assistance from the Vermont State Police, have been working persistently since the morning of the fire, conducting dozens of interviews to gather information about the incident. At this time the investigation is continuing and the agencies are again asking for anyone who may have seen anything unusual before the time of the fire or may have any information about the fire to call the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7946 or the Brattleboro Police Tips Hotline at 802-251-8188. There is also an up-to-$5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction by calling 1-800-32-ARSON 1-800-322-7766.

The four-alarm fire that was reported at 6:06 a.m. on Nov. 7, took place in a 12-unit multi-family dwelling, displacing 45 residents; there were no injuries. The building is owned by the Spring Elliot Valgar Ltd Partnership.

Dec. 5

• At just past midnight, the Vermont State Police observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on northbound Interstate 91. Troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop at Exit One in Brattleboro. As a result, Igor Mileshin, 33, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested and cited with driving under the influence.

• At 12:30 a.m., the Vermont State Police served an arrest warrant on Travis Despain, 24, of Londonderry, at a residence on Spring Hill Road in South Londonderry. Despain attempted to flee out of the rear door of the residence but was taken into custody without incident. Troopers were looking for Despain in relation to a burglary that occurred at Coleman's Garage in Jamaica on Oct. 10.

Dec. 6

• At 10:50 p.m., the Brattleboro Police Department cited Terri L. Maskell, 44, of Brattleboro, with driving with a suspended license.

• The Vermont State Police cited Kevin Parker, 57, of Wardsboro, with vandalism for spraying foam in the front-door lock of the Wardsboro Highway Department on Dec. 30.

All persons named in the Police Log are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
