On Jan. 1, Brattleboro Police responded to a minor car crash where one party had left the scene. Upon further investigation, Jon P. McKinstry, 31, of Plantsville, Conn., was charged with failing to stop at the accident. He was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Criminal Division at a later date.

On Jan. 8, Brattleboro Police responded to Sam’s Department Store for a shoplifter who was in custody. During the investigation, Monime L. Saunders, 36, of Brattleboro, was cited and released for retail theft.

On Jan. 9, Seth Monfette, 40, of Brattleboro, was arrested by the Windham County Sheriff’s Department for contempt of court for failing to pay his child support. He was transported and lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility.


The Windham County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash, which occurred on East West Road, sometimes in the early morning hours of Jan. 12. The vehicle involved left the scene after striking several mailboxes and causing damage to the property. It is apparent that there is damage to the front of the vehicle that struck these mailboxes. On Jan. 9, Natasha Holden, 37, of Guilford, was arrested by Windham County Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear at court for a pre-trial conference. She was taken into custody and later brought before the Vermont Superior Court Criminal Division as a result.


On Jan. 11, Vermont State Police responded to a residence in an attempt to locate an escapee from the Vermont Department of Corrections. Members of the State Police located Delaney Alyn Ping Medvigy, 19, of Putney, at her boyfriend’s home on Stockwell Drive. She was taken into custody without incident for escaping custody.


On Jan. 12, Vermont State Police initiated a traffic stop on a Connecticut registered Sedan for failing to signal on I-91. Further investigation revealed that the operator, Stephen E. Klosz, 20, of Stamford, Conn., was smoking marijuana prior to the traffic stop. After voluntary consent was obtained from Klosz, a misdemeanor amount of marijuana was located. Klosz was given a criminal citation to appear in court on Feb. 26.


On Jan. 12, Vermont State Police were notified of a burglary complaint at a residence located on Deer Hill Road. William Wasilefsky reported that someone had forced entry into his residence by breaking a window. Investigation revealed that there were at least two individuals that approached the residence on foot. A flat screen television as well as a firearm were taken. A witness advised that a dark, possibly blue van, with Vermont plates, was spotted in the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Senior Trooper Genevra Cushman at 802-254-2382.
