Police look for man who tried to solicit Vermont girl

SPRINGFIELD (AP) - Police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly tried to solicit a 12-year-old girl walking home from school.

The Springfield School District reported a student at Riverside Middle School was walking home around 2:35 p.m. Monday when she was approached by a man near a town shopping plaza off Chester Road and River Street. Police say the unidentified male asked the girl to perform a sexual act and walked behind her for a short period of time. Police said he offered her money.

The girl refused and got away.

The school district issued an alert to inform parents and guardians of the incident and reminded them to speak to children about staying safe, according to reports.
