Police: Newport man had 410 bags of heroin in socks, pockets

DERBY, VT. >> A 19-year-old Vermont man was arrested after state police officials say officers found 410 bags of heroin hidden in his socks and pockets during a traffic stop in Derby.

Newport resident Antonio Matos was pulled over for crossing over the center line on state Route 5 early Sunday.

Police say officers detected the smell of marijuana on Matos, who agreed to be searched. They say the heroin was then found to be in his possession.

Matos was charged with trafficking heroin and is currently being held at Northern State Correctional Facility.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Orleans County Court.

It wasn't immediately known if Matos had a lawyer, and there was no phone number listed for him.
