Police: Vermont man breaks into 2nd Catholic church in a week

ORLEANS, VT. >> A 20-year-old northern Vermont man has been accused of breaking into a Catholic church for the second time this week.

Justin Roy of Orleans was charged with burglary and vandalism Thursday.

Police say Roy wrapped cloth around an object and lit it on fire to use as a light source after breaking into St. Paul's Catholic Church in Orleans. Officials say the small fire was put out with a fire extinguisher. Damage to the church was minor.

Police say Roy denied starting the fire.

Roy pleaded not guilty Tuesday to breaking into St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Barton that caused more than $3,000 worth of damage. Police say a fire was set there, too.

A phone number couldn't be found for Roy and there's no attorney listed for him.
