Post 5 denies Bellows Falls

BRATTLEBORO >> A man seen wandering out near the Colonels Den on Tuesday evening may or may not have been searching for a Pokemon.

He ended up capturing a home run ball instead.

Chris Lasch went 2 for 3, including a 340-foot souvenir over the fence in left, to lead Brattleboro to a 10-8 American Legion baseball victory over visiting Bellows Falls at Tenney Field.

Post 5 (13-5) is expected to face Colchester in the first round of the state tournament on Saturday at Castleton University at 2 p.m. Bellows Falls (9-9) will likely take on the OEC Kings in the opener at 11 a.m..

Bellows Falls and Brattleboro played to a 4-4 tie over the first three frames of the regular-season finale. A two-run double by Zach Streeter in the first was BF's biggest blow, while Eric Libardoni's club got RBI singles from Dan Petrie and Sam Ognenoff.

Chris Hall reached on an infield single and then Lasch hit a two-run bomb to left as Brattleboro took a 7-4 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.

Singles by Streeter, Alex Groenewold and Kyle Weeks in the top of five helped the visitors go ahead 8-7. But Lasch would strike again with a two-run triple to left-center in the fifth, before Kassidi Ramirez tripled and then added an insurance run in the sixth.

Hall and Lasch each finished with a couple of hits for the winners. Hall also had four assists at the hot corner, including a pretty play in the sixth when he ranged to his left and threw a dart across the diamond to first baseman Tanner Bell to get Corey.

Streeter went 3 for 4 to pace the BF offense. The center fielder also made the highlight reel by charging hard to make the final out in the sixth.

Ognenoff got the start for the home team and Ben Betz threw three innings of relief. They combined for four walks and seven strikeouts.
