Post 5 edges rival in opener
BRATTLEBORO -- After falling behind 3-0 in the first frame, the Post 5 Legion baseball team rallied to beat rival Bennington, 5-4, under first-year coach Wayne Wright.
Brattleboro scored four runs in the second to take the lead. Gerard Roberge started it with a single, Kevin Paciulli battled before being hit by a pitch, Bennington made two miscues, and Post 5 got clutch hits from Jamie Martell and Chris McAuliffe.
In the fourth, Paciulli and George Atkins singled to put runners on the corners, before Cam Wright’s single drove in the game-winning run.
After Bennington tallied once in the fifth, Brattleboro pitcher Jimmy Mills (complete game 5-hitter) got eight straight outs to end it. Evan Parro, who played great defense at shortstop for the winners, also had a hit.
Brattleboro (1-0) will host Bellows Falls today at 5:30 p.m. and then host a team from West Virginia on Thursday.
