Post 5 is swept


BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Post 5 baseball team was swept by Greenfield 12-0 and 6-3 in Saturday's American Legion doubleheader.

Dan Petrie had two hits and drove in one run to lead Brattleboro offensively during the 6-3 loss. Tanner Bell and Dillon Green each saw time on the mound and finished with two strikeouts apiece.

Ben Betz and Chris Lasch took turns on the hill for Brattleboro in the rout. Greenfield stole a 3-0 lead in the first, added four more in the fourth and erupted for five runs in the sixth.

This week, Post 5 will play at Bellows Falls on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then at Randolph on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Saxtons River Pirates

SAXTONS RIVER >> The Pirates split with the Barre Braves on Sunday, winning 3-1 and then losing 9-6. Jeremy Currie fanned nine and fired a two-hitter in the victory. Chris Bashaw had an RBI single and Zach Hale drove a couple of runs in to lead the offense. In the sequel, Brian Bashaw had three hits, while Currie, Andrew Robbins and James Lugo added two apiece. The 5-16 Pirates will face Williamstown, Mass. on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Walpole, N.H. and will host the Walpole Wild Blue at noon on July 4.
