HALIFAX CENTER -- Harvard University Professor Stephen Greenblatt will address this Sunday’s vesper service at 6:30 p.m. on the subject of Adam and Eve and the story’s utility for the world in the future. The gathering will take place at the Halifax Union Society, which is near the intersection of Stowe Mountain and Jacksonville Stage Roads. All are invited. Refreshments will be served.

Dr. Greenblatt is a scholar and writer in the humanities. Among his books are "Will in the World" (a biography of Shakespeare) and "The Swerve: How the World Became Modern." The Rev. Dr. Marcia Dorey will preside.

This week’s scripture points out the seeming vanity of unending sin and forgiveness, the impossibility of ransoming ourselves, and the ultimate power of love. There will be hymn singing and reflection opportunities.
