Raising funds for fellow artist
Friends of local artist and gallery owner Jim Giddings are planning a Thursday, Sept. 29 benefit to help him rebuild after a recent fire destroyed his studio and four decades of paintings. The fundraiser, planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m. at 118 Elliot St. in Brattleboro, will begin with refreshments and a silent auction of art donated by local artists and collectors, followed by a live auction of more work at 7 p.m.
Proceeds will support Giddings' effort to rebuild his studio, which was leveled in a fire. Although his art can't be replaced, an estimated $10,000, in addition to a projected insurance settlement and donations already received, will help restore the space. Artists interested in donating work for the auction should email firstname.lastname@example.org by Sept. 22. Contributions may be made payable to Jim Giddings Fire Fund at the event or mailed to the Jim Giddings Fire Fund in care of Brattleboro Savings & Loan, 221 Main St., Brattleboro, Vt., 05301.
