Rebels are Reformer Team of the Season
BRATTLEBORO >> The Leland & Gray varsity baseball team received 29 votes to run away with Brattleboro Reformer Team of the Season honors.
Head coach Eric Durocher's club went 13-2 during the regular season to clinch the Marble Valley League title and also earn the top seed in the Division 3 Tournament. The Rebels then defeated Montpelier and Oxbow respectively in the first two rounds of the playoffs, before being upset by Windsor in a semifinal.
Designated hitter Walker Hamer and first baseman Nicolas Morrow each went 2 for 3 at the plate and also combined for three runs batted in to lead the Townshend team past the Solons 12-2 in a playdown game. And then center fielder Jeremy Bovat went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs as Leland & Gray scorched the Olympians 11-4 in a quarterfinal.
Freshman hurler Casper Rowe and sophomore shortstop Patrick McDonald were the standouts in the team's 3-1 loss to Windsor in a Final 4 contest. Rowe fanned five, walked three and scattered seven hits, while McDonald made a pair of highlight defensive plays and also hurdled the opposing catcher to somehow score.
"I'm so proud of these guys for taking what we had and winning 15 games. I'm pretty excited about the future," stated coach Durocher.
