Reggae night in Putney
The Thunderballs at Next Stage following Jamaican-themed dinner
Next Stage Arts Project presents The Thunderballs reggae dance band, at Next Stage on Saturday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 available online at nextstagearts.org. Next Stage is located at 15 Kimball Hill, Putney and features a newly-renovated performance space with a great dance floor, sound system and air-conditioning.
Every town has its secrets, and one of Brattleboro's best kept ones is N.L. Dennis, a Jamaican reggae singer who has for the past two years been spending his summers in Vermont. With word getting around about this man's incredible vocal chops, The Next Stage Theater in Putney is proud to present him and his band, The Thunderballs, at dance party at Next Stage, following a Jamaican-themed dinner at Katy's Great Food, starting at 5:00pm.
Born in Jamaica and raised on his father's farm, Dennis built his first guitar when he was eight years old. Within a few years he had won a national singing competition and began performing regularly, writing his own songs. He received praise from none other than Bob Marley when Marley stopped by a recording session at which Dennis was singing with reggae icons Toots and The Maytals.
Appearing in New England for his second season, Dennis sings his catchy, uptempo reggae songs in a soaring voice that is often compared to iconic reggae vocalists Jimmy Cliff and Toots Hibbert.
Accompanying himself on rock-solid rhythm guitar, Dennis is backed by a top-notch ensemble of Brattleboro (Vermont)-area musicians, including Joel Eisenkramer on bass and backing vocal, Peter Eisenkramer, bandleader, arranger and keyboard player, and a horn section.
The Thunderballs deliver a show full of original and classic reggae tunes, played in a lively danceable classic reggae style.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., Katy's Great Food will serve a special Jamaican-themed dinner. Call 802 536-4196 for dinner reservations.
