Rev. Barbro Hansson to explore religious freedom Sunday at All Souls UU Church
WEST BRATTLEBORO -- All Souls Unitarian Universalist invites all to worship on Sunday, April 6, at 10 a.m. The topic will be "What About Religious Freedom?"
George Carlin said, "Religion is like a pair of shoes... Find one that fits for you, but don’t make me wear your shoes." Carlin, an American comedian, writer, social critic and actor, spoke a Unitarian Universalist truth, though he probably was not aware of it. His statement goes to the very heart of the whole Free Church movement, which promoted the idea that individuals should be free to choose for themselves to what church or religious faith they want to belong.
The story of Unitarian Universalism is intimately intertwined with the story of religious freedom. This Sunday, the Rev. Barbro Hansson will explore religious freedom within our free church and liberal religious heritage as well as through a wider historic perspective. Jamie Gibson will reflect on why she has chosen Unitarian Universalism.
This Sunday is the kick off for the Children’s Song circle. Musician and educator, Daniel Kasnitz, will meet with children, of all ages, to craft an original song, and then bring it back to the congregation before the end of the service. The song will be related to the monthly theme, Freedom. The Children’s Song Circle is a new monthly Sunday morning event. Youngsters off all ages are welcomed.
The First Sunday Offering will benefit the Minister’s Discretionary Fund. This is Potluck Hospitality Sunday. Those attending are reminded to bring something to share.
Anyone new to the All Souls community wishing to meet some other newcomers as well as not-so-newcomers is invited to attend on Sunday, April 6. The Membership Committee is planning a luncheon at noon for those new and not-so-new. Talk to a greeter on Sunday morning if interested.
