Rev. Dr. Mary Hawkes to be guest minister Sunday at Newfane’s Congregational Church

NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will welcome the Rev. Dr. Mary N. Hawkes to the pulpit on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. Her sermon is titled "When Our God Weeps, When Our God Rejoices" with scripture readings from the book of Isaiah, chapter 62:1-5 and from the Gospel of John, chapter 2, verses 1-11. Congregational hymns will be "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise," "Be Thou My Vision" and "O God in Whom All Life Begins." The choir will sing "I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me." The prelude will be "Someone Somewhere Needs a Prayer" and the postlude "Song of Joy" played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria.

Events for the coming week include the Early Education Services’ Playgroup at 9:30 a.m. and Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Handbell rehearsal at 5 p.m. on Thursday. The deadline for the February Steeple is Tuesday, Jan. 22. Next Sunday’s guest speaker will be Apple Gifford.
