Rev. Hamm’s sermon on Sunday will be ‘Practicing Transfiguration’
NEWFANE -- The Second Sunday in Lent will be observed at the First Congregational Church of Newfane at its 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, March 16. The title of the Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is "Practicing Transfiguration" with scripture reading from the Gospel of Matthew 17:1-9.
Congregational hymns are "The God of Abraham Praise," "What Wondrous Love Is This" and "Take My Life and Let It Be." The offertory special music will be "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Unger (the theme from The Civil War film by Ken Burns played by Dan Marx on the oboe.
Guest organist, Helen Ruth Belanger, will play the prelude "Still, Still with Thee" by Robert J. Hughes and the postlude "The Voice of Praise" by Chester Nordman. Sunday school meets at 10:15 a.m. and there is child care available. Following the service and each Sunday throughout Lent, there will be a gathering in the Dowley Room for discussion of the practice and discipline of prayer. Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Linus Quilters at 1 p.m. on Tuesday; Ladies Aid at 10 a.m., Hand Bell rehearsal at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Deadline for the April issue of The Steeple is Wednesday, March 19.
