Rev. Pamela Lucas to serve as guest pastor Sunday at Newfane’s Congregational Church
NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will welcome the Rev. Pamela Y. Lucas as guest preacher on Sunday, Jan. 13. Rev. Lucas is an Associate Conference Minister from the Vermont Conference of the United Church of Christ and is responsible primarily for Search & Call and Small Church Ministry.
The title of Rev. Lucas’ sermon is "We Are a Baptized People" with scripture reading from Isaiah 43:1-7 and Luke 3:15-17, 21-22. Congregational hymns for the service include "Brightest and Best of the Stars," "As With Gladness" and "Jesus Calls Us O’er the Tumult."
The prelude will be "Faith" by Mendelssohn, the offertory "Someone Somewhere Needs a Prayer" by Ruth Pallock, and the postlude "Chorale: In All Lands Rejoice Ye Christians" by Johann Schop & J.S. Bach, all played by the organist/music director Martha LaMoria.
Sunday school for the children begins at 10:15 a.m. The Mission of the Month for January is the Andover Newton Theological School and the Bangor Theological Seminary. On Jan. 6 the new elevator was used for the first time by 101 year-old Vera Harrington who is the longest living member of the church and also a past organist.
Events for the upcoming week include the Early Education Services Playgroup at 9:30 a.m. and Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; the Linus Quilters at 1 p.m. and the Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Garden Club at noon and Handbell rehearsal at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Worship on Sunday, Jan. 20, will be led by the Rev. Mary Hawks.
