BRATTLEBORO -- Worship at First United Methodist Church will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. The service will include the reading of the story of Jesus telling the rich man to "Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." The scripture, found in Luke 12:13-21, will be read by Mary Anne Deer. The Rev. Cheryl Meachen’s sermon, "Appreciation is Not Possession," will explore our consumer culture, the 10th commandment: "Thou Shalt not Covet" and Jesus’ instruction that we not accumulate and store our treasure here on earth, but rather seek heavenly things.

Holy Communion will be celebrated. The United Methodist Church uses grape juice and gluten free bread is available. It is not necessary to be a member to receive the bread of life at the Lord’s Table. All are welcome.
