’The King of Glory Comes’ to be sung by choir on Sunday at Newfane Church


NEWFANE -- The second Sunday of Advent will be celebrated at the First Congregational Church of Newfane at the 10 a.m. worship service with concurrent Sunday School on Dec. 8. The Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is titled "Preparation" with scripture from Isaiah 11:1-10. The Candle of Peace will be lit by Liz and Ian Harrison while the congregation sings "We Light the Advent Candles."

Congregational hymns are "Long Ago, Prophets Knew," "Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming" and "Sing We Now of Christmas." The choir will sing "The King of Glory Comes" by Jabusch/Ferguson.

Martha LaMoria, organist/music director, will play the prelude "He Shall Feed His Flock" by G.F. Handel and the postlude "Variations on Hyfrydol" by Roger C. Wilson. The second session of the adult education series on Handel’s "Messiah" and the Bible will take place immediately following the coffee hour.

Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Linus Quilters at 1 p.m. on Tuesday; Senior lunch at noon (roast pork), Hand Bell rehearsal at 5 p.m. and Senior Choir at 6:30 p.m. all on Thursday; Ladies Aid Cookie Sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Sandy Hook Vigil at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 14).

The Missions of the Month for December and January are the SEVCA Fuel Assistance, Brattleboro Hospice and the Brattleboro Drop-In Center.
