’The Star Spangled Banner’ to be played by the Newfane Community Hand Bells

NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will meet for worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, Memorial Day weekend. The title of Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is "Loved and Equipped" with scripture from the gospel of John, chapter 14, verses 15-21.

The congregation will sing "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty." "Not for Tongues of Heaven’s Angels" and "God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand." The choir will sing "Onward, Christian Soldiers" by Baring-Gould/Sullivan. The prelude, "The Star Spangled Banner" arranged by Ken Olsson and "Halcyon Song (Song of Peace)" by Kristy Mitchell, will be played by the Newfane Community Hand Bells.

The congregation will join in singing "God Bless America" as the postlude. Special music, "For the Beauty of the Earth," will be provided on the flute by Betsy Mariere.

Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. Tuesday; Men’s Group at 10 a.m., Prayer Quilts at 1 p.m., Bells at 5 p.m. and choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., all on Thursday.
