Rutland-Brattleboro softball game is suspended

BRATTLEBORO — The Rutland varsity softball team was ahead of host Brattleboro 2-0 on Thursday at Sawyer Field when a storm moved in to force the umpires to suspend the game in the bottom of the third.

Sara Clark singled and scored in both the first and third innings for the visitors. Carolyn Laird and Molly Pfenning each drove in a run.

Rutland's Lauren Snitker had a no-hitter going and was facing Hailey Derosia with zero outs in the bottom of the third when the storm moved in. Jamie Mahoney drew a walk in the first and Lauren McKenney reached on an error in the second, but the 8-4 Colonels left them both stranded.

BUHS starter Hannah Wilson gave up four hits, fanned four and walked zero in three innings of work. Jocelyn Aither had two assists at the hot corner and Derosia (SS) somehow caught a scorcher off the bat of Caitlin Laird.

Brattleboro lineup: Jamie Mahoney C, Devin Millerick CF, Hannah Wilson P, Emmalee Waite 1B, Lauren McKenney 2B, Bridget Duff RF, Jocelyn Aither 3B, Mariah Powers LF, Hailey Derosia SS. Reserves - Nicolette Rivas, Sylvia Patenaude, Olivia Weeks.
