Saxtons River Recreation Area to celebrate 50th anniversary

SAXTONS RIVER >> The Saxtons River Recreation Area will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding with special events and projects during the coming year.

A meeting to plan those events will be held Sunday, March 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the dining room of Christ's Church on Main Street.

"As we drudge through these cold, gray days of winter, we look forward to the beautiful days of summer only months away," said Samantha Fletcher, SRRA vice-chair, "and especially to this summer, which marks the anniversary of the formation of the Rec and the development of the land donated by Stanley Furgat so many years ago."

To celebrate the major milestone, the current Rec leadership is reaching out to the community, past board members and any interested individuals who would be willing to participate in a short-term celebration committee to be in effect from March through August 2016.

The committee will assist in developing celebratory events to host throughout the summer as well as devising, executing, and fundraising for a list of renovation projects that are needed to beautify and strengthen the infrastructure of the buildings and lands for years to come.

Interested individuals should contact at Fletcher at or 802-869-1407 and should also plan to attend the March 6 meeting.

"Please consider this amazing opportunity to give back to the community and to celebrate an amazing part of our history, heritage and family," Fletcher said.
