September Elks Students of the Month announced

At BUHS...

BRATTLEBORO -- The Elks Students of the Month for September at Brattleboro Union High School are Nicholas Ahlgren, Rebecca Soubble, Rashka Manning-Ross and Brianne Knox.

Nick was recognized for citizenship and community service. He is always polite and helpful as he helps out with Open House and Teacher/Parent conferences, and always wears a smile.

Rebecca was nominated for her academic improvement, effort and significantly improved attendance. She has recently taken on the challenge of an additional math class.

Rashka is a conscientious and helpful student, with a caring nature toward others. He is excited to learn new things and has a real passion for integrating technology into his work.

Brianne is a go-getter with a mature approach to learning. She invests a lot of effort into her work. Brianne is an active member of the BUHS Ski & Snowboard Club and Germany Exchange. She also hosted a Swiss student in September.


WESTMINSTER -- James Morton has been named the September Elks Student of the Month for Bellows Falls Union High School. James, a senior, is the son of Tim and Ann Morton of Rockingham.

James is a dedicated student who works hard in his classes. He challenges himself and is always willing to put in the extra time needed to improve his skills. Attentive in class, he asks good questions and offers insightful comments. James is always positive and goes out of his way to help others.

As a good role model, he is responsible and dedicated to making BFUHS and the community a better place. James has served on the BFUHS Student Council all four years and is currently president of the group. He has been an active member of the BFUHS Drama Club, Math Team, Envirothon Team, District Jazz Choir and District Concert Choir. He is a member of the Marilee Huntoon Jesse A. Judd Chapter of the National Honor Society at BFUHS.

In addition the his school activities, James has participated in Taekwondo, played in a local band and spent last summer on a five-week Experiment in International Living exchange in France. Clearly a dedicated student, James has received national recognition as an AP Scholar and as a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Rensselaer Medal Award winner.

He has also received the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award and the University of Vermont Green and Gold Scholars Award.
