Serial offender gets 10 years behind bars for slew of crimes


NEWPORT CITY, VT. >> A serial offender from northern Vermont has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for a rash of crimes ranging from theft to an illegal marijuana growing operation.

The Caledonian Record reports 26-y<URL destination="">ear-old Henry "Laslo" Ecker-Racz pleaded guilty to charges of false pretenses, growing more than 25 marijuana plants, repeatedly violating conditions of release, petty larceny and drug possession.

Pros</URL>ecutors say the Glover resident was growing marijuana in the basement of the Hinman Settler Road home he shared with his mother.

Ecker-Racz also entered a plea of no contest to charges of possession of stolen property, including five rifles and jewelry, from a house that was robbed in Glover this summer.

Police say a cooperating individual told officers that Ecker-Racz had tried to sell the items.
