Services begin at 10 a.m. starting this week at Dummerston Congregational
DUMMERSTON -- Worship at the Dummerston Congregational Church begins at 10 a.m. from January through March. (Note the time change.) Jan. 6 is a Communion Sunday and the special offering will go toward blankets for Church World Service to be used in refugee camps and shelters here at home and around the world.
A donation of $5 buys a blanket made locally and pre-positioned to be available immediately in time of need wherever disaster strikes. The scriptures for this Epiphany Sunday are Psalm 72, praying for national leaders and Isaiah 60: 1-6, rejoicing in God’s promises. The Meditation is "He’s Coming! He’s Come!" The Communion Table is open, and all who seek to follow Jesus and to walk in love and charity with their neighbor are welcome to share in this sacrament of grace.
Children begin in worship and then go to an open classroom. The Children’s Story, "Bringing Our Gifts," is based on Matthew 2: 1-12, the story of the wisemen. Jeff Kahler from the Youth Group who went on a mission trip to Kenya last spring will meet with the children to introduce a church school mission for Kenyon children. Offering boxes for the year will be distributed. Children will prepare a puppet show about the mission project for coffee hour.
Non-perishable foods, toiletries, household item, blankets, tents and tarps for the Drop-In Center may be left in the church entry. A "Dove Board" with needed items for those living with HIV/AIDS is in the church entry. Items may be returned to the "Dove Basket."
The church is located in Dummerston Center, 1536 Middle Road. Dummerston Congregational Church UCC is a Green Justice Congregation of the United Church of Christ. Because the church is on the top of a mountain, worship and programs are canceled when driving is treacherous. If worship is canceled, all events for that day are canceled. Check for cancellations on WTSA 96.7 FM or 1450 AM or WKVT local news, or contact the church to be added to a calling tree. For more information about this energetic, faithful, friendly and mission-oriented church, contact Pastor Susanna Griefen, 802-257-0544, email@example.com.
