Shumlin: Money and TV doesn't buy elections

MONTPELIER -- Gov. Peter Shumlin says spending lots of money on television ads and mailers isn't what wins political campaigns in Vermont. He says it's more important to speak truthfully to voters.

The comments came as Shumlin appeared Wednesday before more than 200 employees of Dynapower Co. in South Burlington. He went there to thank Vermonters for giving him a second two-year term.

Shumlin also said he's proud of what he termed the evolution of America on same-sex marriage, after it was approved in referenda in Maine, Maryland and Washington state.
